Generally they are adapted or sanitized depending on the age in which they are told, and sometimes by the storyteller himself. Such is the case of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka (1992) and Lane Smith (illustrator). In this discussion we will look both at the "stinky cheese man" and his predecessor through the work of Maria Tatar, in the 1998 version of The Classic Fairy Tales. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
